The Power of Art

Good afternoon all,

I am at home so you are in the capable hands of Mr. Fazzolari. Today I would like you to put on your head phones, find a small sample of your current favorite song and answer these questions: How does this song make you feel? (Happy, sad, calm, energized, hyped, etc.) What would be other examples of music that makes you feel these ways? Finally, is there music that makes you feel smarter?  Why?

Have some samples ready to share!

Have a good day and I hope to see you Friday.

Mr. V.

  2. Hands Held High- Linkin Park

When I listen to Hands Held High by Linkin Park I feel many things. While listening to this song I do many different things. I work on school stuff while listening to this song, I like driving while listening to this song, snowboarding, sleeping, pretty much anything that I am doing I enjoy more while listening to this song. I would say that Hands Held High helps me do all of these things because it is a very mellow song and just helps me be very calm. Also this song has a very deep bass, which I think affects moods as well. The song is about war, but since it has such a mellow beat I don’t even think about the bad things that the song is talking about. When I listen to music I usually don’t even notice the lyrics, I pay attention to all of the instruments of the song, maybe I do this because I play many instruments and just analyze the music rather than the words.

  3. Fix You – Coldplay
I found this song to be inspirational. Personally, I think the words are positive and hopeful. I especially like the part where the guitar starts to play. The song inspires me to keep doing the things I do. It gives me a sense of hope. I usually listen to this song whenever I can. On the bus, the car and whenever I feel a bit down. I can listen to this song while studying or doing homework. The guitar part is the best part of the song. The tune is positive, inspirational, and it makes me want to do something great!

  4. Metallica – One

I don’t exactly know the genre of this song but I will say Hardcore Rock. I like this song because it makes me so “ready to go”. It gets me to a point where I feel invincible/powerful/indestructible at certain points and other points, like the beginning, it starts are calm and it’ll help me concentrate on my work. I personally use this song to do my homework because it gets me “in the zone”. It starts slow then it hypes up. I like to think about breaking things or tackling someone really hard in a football game when I listen to this song. But then also it also lets me concentrate. For example, right now, after Aishah sarcastically spoke to me in a loud tone, I imagined me beating her face in, no lie. If events occur right after I listen to this song that makes me a little upset, it goes from little upset to severely angry to the point where I want to completely explode at somebody. This is a great song indeed.

  5. Thugz Mansion - Tupac & Nas

This song is relaxing. When I listen to this song I become calm. Not calm to the point where I want to go to sleep. It puts me in the mood where I start thinking. If I’m doing my work I think I focus a lot more on the work than the music because it makes you think. What I mean by that is that it brings out some negativity that is around the world in areas of the hood. It focuses on the bad to make them seem like life will go on. No matter where you are at, you can turn your life around. If you are in a struggle just have faith and no matter the sin you can bounce back and get to “Thugz Mansion.”

  6. American Pie by Dean McLean -
It would seem that in general, American Pie would be a poor choice for studying for a variety of reasons. For one reason, the changes from sad to happy, back to more sad and somber, and so forth makes it difficult to stay in a stable state. While it is not too uplifting or too dreary, it changes over the course the song and thus seems rather unlikely to be conducive to studying. It makes me contemplative when I listen to it, and though it won’t help WHILE I’m studying, after I listen to it, I find that I can focus better.
